Why is TQQQ Up Today After Easing Inflation

The ProShares UltraPro QQQ ETF (TQQQ) surged 6.76% to close at $80.88 on January 15, 2025, as the Nasdaq 100 index benefited from a combination of easing inflation concerns and strong corporate earnings. The Nasdaq 100 rose by 2.31% to 21,237.85, driven by a softer-than-expected core inflation reading in December, which came in at 2.9% y/y, matching expectations and alleviating fears of aggressive Federal Reserve rate hikes. This led to a significant drop in Treasury yields, with the 10-year yield falling to 4.66%, its largest decline in months, boosting growth stocks like Tesla and Nvidia. Additionally, major U.S. banks reported better-than-expected earnings, further fueling optimism. The broader market also saw gains, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 both posting their best single-day performances since November 2023.
