Citi Projects $33 Billion U.S. Treasury Issuance Amidst Global Bond Supply Surge

Citi Research anticipates a significant issuance of $33 billion in U.S. Treasuries next week, focusing on the 20-year sector and 10-year TIPS, as detailed in their January 17, 2025 report. This issuance is part of a broader global bond supply surge, with Europe expecting around €21 billion in European Government Bonds (EGB) from Germany, Portugal, and France. The UK is also set to issue approximately £9 billion in gilts. Citi notes that the U.S. Treasury's issuance will not be accompanied by any cash flows eligible for reinvestment, highlighting a strategic focus on new debt offerings. The report underscores the dynamic nature of global bond markets, with varying issuance strategies across regions.
